AWS Launches Free Hands-On Credential for Securing AI Agent Identities

AWS launched AWS Securing Agent Identities Demonstrated on September 29, adding a free practical credential for people securing AI agents on AWS. The assessment is available through AWS Skill Builder without a paid subscription.

It arrived alongside AWS Databases for Agentic AI Demonstrated. The security credential focuses on protecting the identities and permissions that allow agents to interact with cloud resources.

What the Assessment Covers

The current Skill Builder listing describes an intermediate-level exam lab lasting 135 minutes. Candidates work in an AWS-provisioned environment to address identity security gaps across Amazon Bedrock AgentCore agents. Procedural guidance is provided, but hints are not.

The listed objectives include:

  • Restricting workload identity access through tags and provisioning identities for self-hosted agents.
  • Configuring scoped JWT authorization and a SigV4 authentication path.
  • Detecting identity security events with AWS CloudTrail and Amazon CloudWatch.

Who This Is For

AWS identifies cloud security engineers and solutions architects securing agentic AI workloads as the intended audience. Its general microcredential FAQ says these assessments are usually appropriate for people with more than six months of experience using the relevant AWS services. That is guidance, rather than a stated mandatory experience prerequisite.

For readers considering the skills in their own work, these related roles may be useful context:

A Microcredential, Rather Than a Full AWS Certification

The launch announcement describes timed practical assessments without multiple-choice questions. Passing earns a shareable Credly badge. AWS positions microcredentials as evidence of specific practical skills that complement its broader certifications.

Under AWS’s microcredential rules, the credential remains valid for 12 months. Renewal becomes available nine months after passing, and a failed attempt requires a 25-day wait before trying again.

Before You Start

Open the official assessment page, review its recommended preparation, and sign in to enroll. Set aside uninterrupted time for the lab; free access does not remove the need for practical preparation.
