ISC2 is renewing its call for practitioners to help shape its developing AI security certification. In an October 8 update, the organization said volunteers are helping identify the knowledge and practical skills the future credential should assess.
What Practitioners Can Contribute
The latest update emphasizes real-world experience: the risks, decisions, and constraints professionals encounter when securing AI systems. ISC2 is still seeking contributors through certification-development workshops and other initiatives, with participants from more than 150 countries already represented.
For learners following the emerging AI security field, this provides an early view of how a professional standard is being built. It does not provide a finalized syllabus to study against.
Who This Is For
ISC2 welcomes interest from members and non-members, including cybersecurity professionals, AI engineers, governance specialists, and risk leaders. Its program page distinguishes broad participation in defining the credential from item-development work, which involves ISC2 member volunteers.
The opportunity may interest people in these roles who already work with AI systems:
- Security Engineers: practitioners can bring examples of implementation challenges and security controls encountered in their work.
- Cloud Security Engineers: those securing AI workloads may contribute perspectives on infrastructure, access, and data protection.
These are examples of potentially relevant experience, rather than a published list of eligibility requirements for the future exam.
Where the Certification Stands
ISC2’s development page and FAQs describe three stages: defining the required competencies, developing exam questions, and administering a pilot to validate the assessment.
A pilot is anticipated in late 2026. The certification is not expected to become operational until 2027, and ISC2 has not yet provided pilot registration instructions. Those timelines remain expectations, not confirmed booking dates.
The planned professional certification also differs from ISC2’s existing AI Security Certificate. The certificate demonstrates learning; the certification is intended to validate professional competence and include continuing education and renewal.
How to Get Involved
Interested professionals can follow the volunteer-form link in ISC2’s October 8 announcement to register interest. Check the program page for participation requirements and future pilot instructions before making exam or training plans.
