OffSec will change how it calculates OSCP+ exam results from December 1, 2026. Its October 6 announcement introduces equated scaled scoring, replacing the fixed passing cutoff used across exam sets.
Which Scoring Method Applies?
- Through November 30: Fixed passing cutoff applies. Candidates need 70 points out of 100 to pass.
- From December 1: Equated scaled scoring applies. Earned points are converted to a scaled score using a calculation specific to the assigned exam set, then compared with the passing standard.
OffSec says the adjustment accounts for small difficulty differences between exam sets while preserving the required competency. The date you take the exam determines the method used.
Who This Affects
The change concerns OSCP+ candidates, especially those with exams near December 1. Previously issued results will not be recalculated, and existing certifications remain valid. The transition grants no additional retake eligibility.
The announcement also preserves the exam’s skills, objectives, grading requirements and proctoring rules. Candidates should continue preparing for the same practical challenge.
Preparation Still Includes Documentation
The official OSCP+ exam guide describes a hands-on assessment involving three standalone machines and an Active Directory set. It also requires a professional penetration-test report documenting the exploitation process, commands and supporting evidence so another technically competent reader can reproduce the work.
Those requirements make note-taking and reporting useful parts of practice, alongside technical work. Our guide to hands-on cybersecurity labs and practice platforms offers context for choosing practice environments; candidates should align preparation with OffSec’s own objectives and rules.
Before Moving an Exam Date
OffSec’s exam-management policy sets the usual rescheduling restrictions: an available rescheduling attempt, more than 48 hours’ notice, and a new date within the voucher or access validity period. The scoring update creates no exception.
For an exam booked near the transition:
- Confirm the scheduled date and applicable scoring method.
- Check remaining rescheduling attempts and access expiry before changing the booking.
- Keep practicing technical tasks and producing clear evidence, rather than assuming the scoring change makes the exam easier.
